A bill that would fundamentally change wildlife management in New Mexico is now one step closer to becoming law after passing the House floor Wednesday.

The core of the law aims to put the money into people鈥檚 hands to 鈥渇ire-proof鈥� their homes. But some lawmakers worried it may violate New Mexico鈥檚 constitution.

On Tuesday, lawmakers on the Senate Conservation Committee unanimously advanced a bill that takes aim at skyrocketing premiums or policy cancellations by proactively planning for future fires.
