Bernalillo County has extended the public comment period for a controversial road project in an industrial area south of Albuquerque.
The $19 million is intended to make commuting easier and bring more business development to the South Valley - that鈥檚 according to Bernalillo County. But people in a nearby neighborhood say they didn鈥檛 have a seat at the table while the plans were being made.
"The community of San Jose, the residents who are going to be greatly impacted by this road, has never had a dialogue where they can sit down and discuss this project with Bernalillo County," said San Jose Neighborhood Association President Esther Abeyta, who worries the road will bring air pollution from cars and more heavy industry to her area.
After complaints from Abeyta and other residents Bernalillo County announced last week they would hold more community meetings on the plan, and that they鈥檇 take until September 28.
