Two new one acts by local playwrights join forces at the Vortex for just two weekends. The Conservator, written and directed by Brian Hansen and performed by Bridget Kelly, tells the story of an art conservator with a risky side. Big Fat Mess is written and performed by Jen Stephenson and directed by RayRey Griego. Jen tells her story of surviving many life challenges as a person with an immune deficiency. An actor who plays Sherlock Holmes invites guests to his home for the Christmas holidays only to find he must be a real detective when a guest turns up dead.

Oscar Wilde鈥檚 鈥淭he Importance of Being Earnest鈥� is the last of his four drawing-room plays, the previous three being 鈥淟ady Windermere鈥檚 Fan鈥�, 鈥淎 Woman Of No Importance鈥� and 鈥淎n Ideal Husband鈥�, written a couple of hundred years ago! This farcical comedy depicts the tangled affairs of two young 鈥榤en about town鈥� who lead double lives to evade unwanted social obligations, both assuming the name 鈥楨rnest鈥� while wooing the two young women of their affections. The play, celebrated for its wit and repartee, parodies contemporary dramatic norms, gently satirizes late Victorian manners, and introduces 鈥� in addition to the two pairs of young lovers 鈥� the formidable 鈥楲ady Bracknell鈥� 鈥� you must have heard of her! A luminary of Albuquerque theatre holding the director鈥檚 baton, Mario Cabrera has chosen six very well-known actors 鈥� Georgia Athearn, Nicee Brown, Clair Gardner, Jerry Hines, Bailey Hunt, Scott Sharot and Michael Weppler - to delight the audience, along with M. Cabrera, as 鈥楲ady Bracknell鈥�! Performances 7.30pm Fridays and Saturdays. Additional performances Thursday Dec 11 and 18 at 7.30pm ($10 tix available). Saturday Dec 13 - 2pm only.
