Since a school shooting in Parkland, Florida, left 17 people dead back in February, some of the students who survived have been rallying for other young people to get involved in politics.
Parkland students are touring the country to fight low turnout rates among young voters, and they’re .
Jackie Corin is a Parkland senior who’s on the tour. She said young people need to get more involved in the political process because they can make an impact.
“It’s really all about kind of making politics a part of your everyday life and not being scared to do so, because it does affect everyone in this country whether they notice it or not,” she said.
In the last presidential election, only across the country cast their ballots - that’s the lowest of any age group.
The Parkland students will host a barbecue at Roosevelt Park starting at 2:00 through 4:00, where they’ll register people to vote.
Corin said they’re expecting protests from local Second Amendment supporters, but she’s up for getting them registered, too.
